We’ve won awards, for Writing, Production Design, Cinematography, Editing, Acting, Directing - at festivals, for broadcast television, for web videos - from the Telly awards, the MarCom awards, the EMMY awards.
Amalgamated Grommets was born out of a need to make something wonderful.
The principals of the film first worked together in 2008, on a short film for the 48 Hour Film Project. It was their first attempt at filmmaking together, and the film won the contest, as well as more than half of the awards. More importantly, these folks, who had spent their separate careers making commercials, corporate videos and convention videos, suddenly discovered they were capable of working together to make something much more important, much more powerful - they were able to make beauty.
And we didn’t stop. We won contest after contest, some in Los Angeles, and three of our films were screened at the Cannes Film Festival. We’ve won awards, for Writing, Production Design, Cinematography, Editing, Acting, Directing - at festivals, for broadcast television, for web videos - from the Telly awards, the MarCom awards, the EMMY awards. We do excellent work, we help the film community, we mentor students and young professionals.
The challenge of the video world is making enough money to stay alive, and earning enough to make a film is almost unheard of. We, as individuals, continue to make our living in production, making videos for companies and government, but we strive to tell stories, to make audiences laugh or cry, sit at the edge of their seats, and tell their friends about the film, over and over. We want to move people, to inspire them, to give them a little relief from their stressful and hurried lives.
Our company is based around those principles. We want to entertain, to inspire, to make people feel better. We have a group of skilled and talented people aligned with our goals, and the knowledge and experience to make remarkable work.
If you follow film podcasts, or are witnessing what is happening in the film industry right now, you can see that the business is in upheaval. For the first time, content is more powerful than the people who run the studios - great movies and shows are succeeding without stars, without enormous marketing budgets, without the machinery that was required just ten years ago. Audiences are changing what they crave, from big names and trite stories, to compelling characters and skillful execution.
That is exactly the definition of Amalgamated Grommets.
